TrakMats are made of a very durable HD polyethylene material that will bend and twist under heavy loads. This flexibility makes them unsuitable as bridging devices.
All mats rely on the integrity of the ground to support a load. If you can walk across the site without leaving a footprint then TrakMat should support a road legal vehicle. Ground with a high water table may not maintain its integrity over multiple trips due to the pumping action produced.
We recommend that mats should be at least 1/3 wider than the widest set of tires on the vehicle.
Green TrakMats stay a lot cooler than black mats in the summer. Please note that if the grass has recently been treated with fertilizer, heat can still build up from the chemical reaction and you will need to keep moving the mats to avoid damaged.
Mats may stiffen in cold weather but will not become brittle. Simply lay them on a flat surface and they will flatten out again.
TrakMats do not absorb water and can be cleaned either with a hose and brush or a pressure washer on site.
For continuous trips you must connect the mats together. HD cable ties or ASC connectors are normally sufficient for short term installations. HD urethane 2 or 4 way connectors for heavier vehicles. Steel staples may also be need on slopes.
Please make all drivers aware that the tire to mat grip is always better that the ground to mat grip. Therefore keep the speed down and DO NOT STAND BEHIND THE VEHICLE.
In severe mud conditions we recommend the use of a Geo-Fabric under the mats
Single sided mats do not work well on slopes as the smooth side has limited traction.
Pedestrian mats do not have hand cut-outs but have additional connector holes along the sides to avoid mats lifting on uneven ground. HDU 2 and 4 way connectors should only be fitted with dome head bolts to reduce the trip hazard. These mats can be used for vehicles by using the appropriate surface but will not provide the same traction as a double sides mat on slopes.
